Calling all service users…

Barrage Media has been asked to take lead in the Design in Mental Health conference in designing a service user led programme in which service users educate professionals and architects on the issues they care about in design of in patient units.

The Design in Mental Health conference is a fascinating meeting of different audiences, professional, service user, artistic, service provider and others. It takes place in Birmingham, 17 – 18 May 2016. We have been involved in planning the conference for a number of years and pushing for more service user representation and involvement. This is the next step.

We would like to design a half day programme. Two workshops, presented by student architects and service users, and one ‘Dragon’s Den’ where service users are presented with half done architects plans and works in progress and invited to comment and rip them apart if needs be. We’re looking for 2 – 4 service users with an interest in design who would like to run a workshop and think that they’ve got something to say that architects, planners and designers should hear. We’d also like to find up to 12 service users or carers who would like to help run a Dragon’s Den. These are volunteer positions, but we hope you’d get a lot out of it in terms of contacts and development. We would support you in planning your workshop.

For more on the conference see www.designinmentalhealth.com and if you would like to discuss the opportunity please contact hannah@barragemedia.com or fill in the form.
